The next installment of the 2018 Chautauqua Summer Concert Series at First United Methodist Church (FUMC) will raise funds for the Wesley Academy of Music (WAM) while paying homage to the mecca of swing music, and host to some of the greatest entertainers since the 1950’s, Las Vegas.
On Sunday, July 22 at 6 p.m. in Asbury Hall, FUMC performers will recreate some of the music from those iconic Vegas stages with their very own big band playing the original charts performed with the biggest names in show business. Proceeds from the evening will support our mission at WAM, much like last year’s performances of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. These performances brought in over $8000 to start WAM. With those funds, we were able to teach private music lessons to 26 students for the entire year and send a couple students to summer music camps. These students will be in attendance and will share their testimony as we raise funds for another school year.
Please join as at FUMC for a ‘swinging’ evening as we hear Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., the Andrews Sisters, Bobby Darin, Tom Jones, and ‘the King of Rock and Roll’ along with the Chautauqua Big Band for a “Night in Vegas.”
